The very first recognition from the Government of Kerala was the invitation received from the Dist. Collector, Ernakulam in 1981 during the Onam celebration, to illuminate Rajendra Maidan and the Collectorate. Not only did KETA do well but also succeeded in bagging the Ist prize for the illumination.
The official inauguration of the Association was on 28th November 1981 by the then Acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court Sri. Subramanium Potti. To mark the event a full-page press release was given by KETA in Malayala Manorama, Mathrubhumi and Indian Express. Thereafter KETA grew in leaps and bounds and today its members are spread all over India more than a 1000 in number.
Within the first decade of its inception, itself KETA had acquired a piece of land and constructed its own three
storied building in the heart of Ernakulam City which no other Association in India in the Electrical field could achieve within such short span of coming into existence. ‘ ‘Keta Centre’ was inaugurated by the Kerala Electricity Minister Mr.T.Sivadasa Menon on 17-3-1990. It also published its first Diary in the year 1984. As a result of improvement in quality of printing, design and aesthetic look, today it is the most sought after Diary.
The Exhibition conducted by KETA in 1998 in Town Hall Ernakulam was emulated by many others. The Exhibition of the Millennium held in Rajeev Gandhi Indoor Stadium in the year 2000 remain a jewel in the crown of KETA even today.
Keta succeeded in securing a High Court Judgment in favor of its members in the case filed in 1993 against Kerala Government against the Central Sales Tax (CST) and Kerala General Sales Tax (KGST) registration renewal fee enhancement and secured a refund order for all those members who had paid the same. This had become a talk amongst all the other Associations in different fields. Keta also contributes towards the Social Service and other community causes. It has an Educational Incentive Scheme & Medical Assistance Scheme for the most needy, schemes to help the distressed due to Natural Calamities etc.
Keta has been one of most the preferred Associations by the Kerala Government Commercial Taxes department for consultations before Budget preparations every year. It had made several valuable representations to the Governments and had been able to get
favorable amendments in many commercial tax rules including the latest Value Added Tax (VAT) rules and formats.
KETA was represented in the Director Board of Southern Region of Federation of All India Electric Trades Association ( FAIETA). Its News Letter “KETA NEWS” is a boon to members to have the first hand and valuable information about the latest changes, not only in taxation rules but also other prominent Government rules and amendments.
During the Onam Celebrations every year it provides opportunities to its members, their children and staff members to exhibit their skills in fine arts like Music, drawing and drama. Keta has conducted several awareness meeting on ISI, MRTP Act, Quality Control Order, Value Added Tax etc. for the benefit of its members. Today many refer the website of KETA for information on VAT rules and formats. Keta
President Sri. Sudhir Menon is nominated by the State Government as member in the committee
constituted for the simplification of KVAT rules.
Keta had published a book “ Conditions of Supply of Electrical Energy” in 1991 and free copies of the book were distributed to all members. In 1993 Keta published another book called “ A book on Turnover Tax” which was complied by Keta Auditor Sri. R.Krishna Iyer. In association with Forum for Socio- Economic Studies, Ernakulam Keta published book “ Proposed Amendments in Sales Tax 1993-94” This book was released by the then Kerala Finance Minister Sri.Oommen Chandy on 25-4-1993. Keta with other associations, had published yet another book complied by Sri. R.Krishna Iyer “ Hand Book on Sales Tax” which was released by the then Kerala Finance Minister Sri. C.V.Padmarajan on 23-5-1995.
The KETA has 3 district Units. Keta Kottayam Unit was officially inaugurated on 15-9-1999 . Keta Kozhikode Unit was inaugurated on 31-5-2001 . The 3 rd Unit, Keta Thiruvananthapuram Unit was inaugurated by Kerala Transport Minister Sri. Sakthan on 17-4-2005
Keta has been able to settle many disputes between suppliers and members and among members amicably, at district and State level. Keta has been instrumental in taking up the Sales Tax issues of members at District and State level Grievance cells and find amicable and speedy solutions. One of the services rendered by the Association to its members is to get renewal of Cochin Corporation Shop License fee for carrying out business every year. |
